A Prayer for Judgment on Israel’s Enemies

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

1God, do not keep silent;
do not hold Your peace, O God, do not be still.
2 See how Your enemies make an uproar;
those who hate You rear up their heads. 3 They devise cunning plans against Your people;
and conspire together against those You cherish. 4 They say, “Come, let us destroy them as a nation,
that the name of Israel be remembered no more.”   5 For they have consulted together with one mind;
they have united together against You 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
of Moab and the Hagarites, 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre. 8 Assyria has also joined them;
they lend strength to the descendants of Lot.  Selah   9 Deal with them as You dealt with Midian,
as with Sisera and Jabin at the brook Kishon, 10 who perished at Endor,
and became as dung on the ground. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 who said, “Let us seize
the pastures of God for ourselves.”   13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,
like chaff driven by the wind. 14 As fire burns the forest,
and as a flame sets the mountains on fire, 15 so pursue them with Your tempest,
and terrify them with Your storm. 16 Fill their faces with shame,
so that they may seek Your name, O Lord.   17 Let them ever be ashamed and dismayed,
let them perish in disgrace. 18 May they know that You alone
whose name is the Lord are the Most High over all the earth.
