A Prayer for Deliverance

For the director of music. A Psalm of David.

1HEAR me, O God, as I voice my complaint;
protect my life from the terrorising foe.

2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked;
from the scheming mob of evildoers.   3 They sharpen their tongues like swords,
and take aim to shoot bitter words like arrows. 4 They shoot from ambush at the blameless;
they shoot at him suddenly, without fear.   5 They encourage each other in their evil purposes;
they talk of laying snares secretly. They say, “Who will see us?” 6 They devise crimes and say,
“We have devised a cunningly conceived plan.” Surely the inner thoughts and heart of a man run deep.   7 But God will shoot at them with arrows;
they will be struck down suddenly. 8 He will make them stumble;
their own tongues work against themselves; all who see them will recoil in horror.   9 All people will fear,
they will declare the works of God, and ponder what He has done. 10 Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in Him. Let all the upright in heart give glory!
