God Gives the Victory

For the director of music. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord in the day the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said:

1love You, O Lord, my strength.   2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy of praise;
and I am saved from my enemies.   4 The cords of death encompassed me;
the torrents of destruction terrified me. 5 The cords of Sheol entangled me;
the snares of death confronted me. 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord;
I cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple;
my cry to Him reached His ears.   7 Then the earth shook and quaked;
the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because He burned with anger. 8 Smoke rose from His nostrils;
consuming fire came from His mouth; flaming coals blazed forth from it. 9 He parted the heavens and came down;
dark clouds were under His feet. 10 He mounted a cherub and flew;
He soared on the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness His covering;
dark storm clouds His canopy around Him. 12 From of the radiance of His presence thick clouds advanced,
with hail and fiery coals of fire. 13 The Lord thundered in the heavens;
the Most High uttered His voice. 14 He shot His arrows and scattered the enemies;
He hurled great bolts of lightning and routed them. 15 The depths of the sea became visible,
and the foundations of the world laid bare, at Your rebuke, O Lord,
at the blast of breath from Your nostrils.   16 He reached down from on High and took hold of me;
He drew me out of deep waters. 17 He delivered me from my powerful enemy,
from foes too strong for me. 18 They confronted me on the day of my calamity,
but the Lord was my support. 19 He brought me out to a large and open place;
He rescued me because He delighted in me.   20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness;
He has repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. 21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
and have not turned from my God to wickedness. 22 All His ordinances were before me;
I did not put His statutes away from me. 23 I was blameless before Him,
for I kept myself from my iniquity. 24 The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.   25 With the faithful, You show Yourself faithful;
with the blameless man, You show Yourself blameless; 26 with the pure, You show Yourself pure;
but with the crooked, You show Yourself to be shrewd. 27 You deliver an afflicted people,
but You humble those with haughty eyes. 28 You light my lamp;
the Lord my God illuminates my darkness. 29 For by You I advance against a troop,
by my God I can leap over a wall.   30 As for God, His way is perfect;
the word of the Lord is perfect; He is a shield
for all who take refuge in Him. 31 For who is God, except the Lord?
Who is the Rock, except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength,
and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
and sets me firm on the heights. 34 He trains my hands for battle,
my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35 You give me the shield of Your salvation;
Your right hand upholds me; Your gentleness makes me great. 36 You enlarge the path beneath me,
so my feet do not slip.   37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them;
I did not turn back until they were destroyed. 38 I crushed them so they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet. 39 You equipped me with strength for battle;
You subdued my adversaries and made them bow at my feet. 40 You made my enemies turn their backs and flee from me,
and I destroyed those who hated me. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them
even to the Lord, but He would not answer them. 42 I beat them as fine as dust before the wind;
I poured them out like dirt on the streets.   43 You delivered me from the strife of the peoples;
You have made me the head of nations; a people I have not known serve me. 44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me;
foreigners come cringing before me. 45 The foreigners lose heart,
and come trembling from their strongholds.   46 The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock!
Let the God of my salvation be exalted! 47 He is the God who avenges me,
and subdues peoples under me. 48 He delivers me from my enemies;
You exalted me above my foes; You have delivered me from violent men. 49 Therefore I will give thanks to You,
O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name. 50 He gives great victories to His king;
He shows kindness and mercy to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
