A Prayer for the Restoration of Israel

For the director of music. To the tune of ‘The Lilies of the Covenant’. Of Asaph. A Psalm.

1HEAR us, O Shepherd of Israel,
You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth
2before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Awaken Your power,
and come and save us.   3 Restore us, O God,
let Your face shine, that we may be saved.   4 O Lord God of Hosts,
how long will You be angry against the prayers of Your people? 5 You have fed them the bread of tears,
and given them tears to drink in full measure. 6 You make us at strife with our neighbours;
our enemies laugh among themselves.   7 Restore us, O God of Hosts;
let Your face shine, that we may be saved.   8 You brought a vine out of Egypt;
You drove out the nations and planted it. 9 You cleared the ground for it;
it took root and filled the land. 10 The mountains were covered by its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches. 11 Its branches reached to the Sea,
and its shoots to the River.   12 Why did You breach its walls,
so that all who pass by pick its fruit? 13 Boars from the forest tear at it,
and the wild beasts of the field devour it. 14 Turn again, we pray, O God of Hosts.
Look down from heaven and see. Take care of this vine,
15the root Your right hand has planted, the branch that You made strong for Yourself.   16 It is cut down, it is burned with fire;
they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. 17 Let Your hand rest upon the man at Your right hand,
the son of man You have raised up for Yourself. 18 Then we will not turn away from You;
revive us, and we will call upon Your name.   19 Restore us, O Lord God of Hosts;
let Your face shine, that we may be saved.
