A Prayer for Mercy

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. According to ‘Sheminith’. A Psalm of David.

1Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
or discipline me in Your wrath.

2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are shaking. 3 My soul is stricken with terror.
And You, O Lordhow long?   4 Turn, O Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of Your faithful love. 5 For there is no remembrance of You in death;
who can give You thanks in Sheol?   6 I am worn out by my groaning;
every night I flood my bed with weeping; I drench my couch with my tears. 7 My eyes waste away with grief;
they grow weak because of all my enemies.   8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The Lord has heard my plea for help;
the Lord accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed;
they will turn back and be suddenly disgraced.
