The Majesty of God in Judgment

For the director of music. On stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

1IN Judah God is known;
His name is great in Israel.

2 His tent is in Salem,
His dwelling place in Zion. 3 There He broke the flaming arrows from the bows,
the shields and swords, and the weapons of war.  Selah   4 You are resplendent with excellence,
more majestic than mountains covered with wildlife. 5 The stout-hearted were plundered,
they sank into their final sleep; not one of the warriors
can lift his hands. 6 At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both rider and horse lay still. 7 You, and You alone, are to be feared!
Who can stand before You when You are angry? 8 From heaven You pronounced judgment;
the earth feared and was still, 9 when God arose in judgment,
to save the afflicted of the earth.  Selah 10 Surely Your wrath against man brings You praise;
the remainder of wrath You restrain.   11 Therefore make vows to the Lord your God, and keep them;
let all surrounding Him bring tribute to the One who is to be feared. 12 He breaks the spirit of rulers;
He is feared by the kings of the earth.
