word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, how is wood from the grapevine better than any other kind of wood? Does the branch of the vine compare with wood from the trees of the forest? 3 Is wood ever taken from the vine to make something useful with? Or can anyone make a peg from it to hang things on? 4 Instead, it is thrown into the fire for fuel. The fire devours both ends of it and the middle of it is charred. Can it then useful for anything? 5 If it was not useful for anything when it was whole, how much less can it be ever made into anything useful when it is burnt?
6 “Therefore this is what the Lord God says: ‘Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire as fuel, so I will give up the people of Jerusalem. 7 I will set My face against them. They may have escaped from the fire, yet another fire will still consume them. When I set My face against them, then you will know that I am the Lord. 8 I will make the land desolate because they have been unfaithful’, says the Lord God.”
