word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: ‘Hear the word of the Lord! 3 This is what the Lord God says: “Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! 4 O Israel, your prophets are like jackals among ruins. 5 You have not gone up to the breaches or repaired the wall for the house of Israel so that it might stand in battle on the day of the Lord. 6 They have seen false visions and speak lying divinations. They say, ‘This is what the Lord says’, when the Lord has not sent them, yet they wait for the fulfilment of their words. 7 Have you not seen a false vision and uttered lying divinations when you say, ‘The Lord says’, though I have not spoken?
“Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Because you have spoken falsely and had lying visions, I am against you’, says the Lord God. 9 ‘My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord God’.
“For in truth, since they lead My people astray, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace; for when someone builds a wall, they smear it with whitewash. 11 Therefore tell those who smeared it with whitewash that it will fall over. There will be torrential rain, and I will send great hailstones down, and a violent wind will be released. 12 Then when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the whitewash that you smeared it with?’ ”
“Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘In My fury I will release a violent wind, and in My anger there will be torrential rain, and hailstones will fall with destructive fury to consume it. 14 So I will tear down the wall you smeared with whitewash and level it to the ground, so its foundation will be exposed. When it falls, you will be destroyed in the midst of it; and you will know that I am the Lord. 15 So I will spend My wrath against the wall and against those who smeared it with whitewash. Then I will say to you, “The wall is no more, neither are those who whitewashed it— 16 those prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem, and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace’ ”, says the Lord God’.
“Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own imagination. Prophesy against them 18 and say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Woe to the women who sow magic charms on bands on every wrist and make veils for the heads of people of every height in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of My people but preserve your own? 19 You profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for scraps of bread. For you have killed those who should not die and spared people who should not live, by your lying to My people, to those who listen to lies”.
‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: “Behold, I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds, and I will tear them from your arms. I will set free the people that you have ensnared like birds. 21 I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people from your hands, so they will longer be prey in your hands. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 22 Because you have disheartened the righteous with your lies, even though I brought him no grief, and you have encouraged the hands of the wicked not turn from his evil ways and so save his life, 23 therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will deliver My people from out of your hands; then you will know that I am the Lord” ’.”
