the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the House of the Lord, which faces east. There at the entrance to the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur, and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people. 2 The Lord said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and give wicked advice in this city. 3 They say, ‘Will it not soon be the right time to build houses? The city is the pot, and we are the meat’. 4 Therefore, prophesy against them. Prophesy, O son of man!”
Then the Spirit of the Lord came on me, and He said to me, “Say to them: ‘This is what the Lord says: “This is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know the thoughts that are going through your mind. 6 You have killed many people in this city, and you have filled its streets with the dead.”
‘Therefore this is what the Lord God says: “The dead bodies you have dumped within it are the meat, and this city is the pot, but I will drive you out of it. 8 You fear the sword, so the sword I will bring against you”, says the Lord God. 9 “I will bring you out of the city and deliver you into the hands of foreigners, and I will execute judgments on you. 10 You will fall by the sword, and I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 11 This city will not be a pot for you, and you will not be the meat within it. I will judge you at the border of Israel. 12 And you will know that I am the Lord, whose statutes you have not followed and whose ordinances you have not practiced. But instead you have conformed to the practices of the nations around you” ’.”
Now while I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell facedown and cried out in a loud voice, “Ah, Lord God! Will you make a completely wipe out the remnant of Israel?”
The word of the Lord came to me again: 15 “Son of man, your brothers—even your brothers, the men of your kindred, and all of the house of Israel in its entirety—are those about whom the people of Jerusalem have said, ‘They have gone far away from the Lord; this land has been given to us as a possession’.
“Therefore say: ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Although I have sent them far off among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet I have been a sanctuary to them for a little while in the countries where they have gone” ’.
“Therefore say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “I will gather you from the peoples and assembled you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give this the land of Israel” ’.
“They will return there, and they will remove all its detestable things and abominations from it. 19 I will give them one heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the heart of stone from their bodies and give them a heart of flesh, 20 so they may follow My statutes, and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose hearts follow after their desire for detestable things and abominations, I will bring down their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.
Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was above them. 23 And the glory of the Lord rose up from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain east of the city. 24 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to Chaldea, to those in captivity in a vision from the Spirit of God.
Then the vision I had seen left me, 25 and I spoke to those in captivity about all the things the Lord had shown me.
