Ezekiel Chapter 6

Judgment on Idolatrous Israel

1
THE

word of the Lord came to me:  2  “Son of man, turn your face toward the mountains of Israel. Prophesy against them  3  and say, ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! This is what the Lord God says to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: “Behold, I will bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.  4  Your altars will be desolate and your incense altars smashed, and I will throw down your slain people in front of your idols.  5  I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites in front of their idols, and scatter your bones around your altars.  6  Wherever you live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be desolate. Then it will be that your altars have been laid waste and made desolate, your idols smashed and ruined, your incense altars broken down, and your works wiped out.  7  The slain will fall in your midst, and you will know that I am the Lord.

8“Yet I will leave a remnant, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the nations and through the countries.  9  Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations where they have been carried away captive, how I was crushed by their adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves for all the evil they have done and for all their abominable practices.  10  And they will know that I am Lord; I have not threatened in vain to bring this calamity upon them.”

11  ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Strike your hands together and stamp your feet, and shout, ‘Alas!’ because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, for they will fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.  12  He who is far away will die by the pestilence, he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who survives and is spared will die of the famine. So I will spend My wrath upon them.  13  And you will know that I am the Lord, when your people lie slain among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and every leafy oakwherever they offered fragrant incense to all their idols.  14  I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the land desolate and wasted, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the Lord’ ” ’.”
