I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I also saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.
3 Then I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:
“Behold, the dwelling of God is with men,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people,
and God Himself will be with them and be their God.
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
And there will be no more death;
nor sorrow, nor crying, and neither will there be any pain,
because the former order of things has passed away.”
5 Then He who sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I am making everything new!” Then He said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 Then He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life freely. 7 He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars shall have their place in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.”
9 Then one of the seven angels, who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And in the Spirit he carried me away to a great and high mountain, and showed me the Holy City Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It was arrayed with the glory of God, and shone like a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels. Names were inscribed on the gates of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angel who talked with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates and its wall. 16 The city was laid out in a square; its length is the same as its width. He measured the city with the rod, twelve thousand stadia. Its length, width, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man’s measure, which the angel was using. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. 19 The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each of the gates are a single pearl. The great street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 Its gates will never be shut at all by day, and there will be no night there. 26 They will bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 But nothing that defiles will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is vile or deceitful, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
