I saw the Lamb open one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there was a white horse. Its rider held a bow; a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse went out, a fiery red one. Its rider was empowered to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another; and a great sword was given to him.
When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there was a black horse! The rider on it was holding a balance scale in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures say, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the olive oil and the wine!”
When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living creature say, “Come!” So I looked, and there was a pale green horse! 8 Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following with him. They were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by the sword, by famine, by plague, and by the wild animals of the earth.
When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony they had. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, “O Lord, holy and true, how long will it be until You judge and avenge our blood on the inhabitants of the earth?” 11 So they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers, who were to be killed just as they had been, would be completed.
I watched as He opened the sixth seal, and I saw that there was a great earthquake, and the sun became as black as sackcloth, and the entire moon became like blood, 13 and the stars in the heavens fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when it is shaken by a strong wind. 14 Then the sky receded like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place.
Then the kings of the earth, the great men, the generals, the rich, the powerful, and every slave and every free man hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the rocks and the mountains, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
