Revelation Chapter 12

The Woman and Her Son, and the Dragon

1
 A

great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.  2  She was pregnant and cried out in labour and agony to give birth.

3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: a great fiery red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads.  4  His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about give birth, so that he might devour her Child as soon as it was born.  5  She gave birth to a Son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron sceptre. But her child was caught up to God and to His throne.  6  Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, where she would be fed there for 1,260 days.

War in Heaven

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and His angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back,  8  but they did not prevail, and there was no longer a place for them in heaven.  9  So the great dragon was thrown out, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

10  Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down,
who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 But they have conquered him
by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives,
even in the face of death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens,
and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and to the sea,
for the Devil has come down to you. He is filled with great fury,
because he knows that his time is short!”

The Woman Persecuted

13  When the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male Child.  14  But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly from the serpent’s presence to her place in the wilderness, where she would be nourished for a time, times, and half a time.  15  So the serpent spewed water from his mouth like a river after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood.  16  But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river that the dragon had spewed from his mouth.  17  Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspringthose who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 13:1 And the dragon stood on the sand of the sea.
