is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the Israelites before his death.
2 He said:
“The Lord came from Sinai,
and dawned upon us from Seir;
He shone forth from Mount Paran,
and came with ten thousand holy ones,
with flaming fire in His right hand.
3 Truly He loves His people;
all Your holy ones are in Your hand.
At Your feet they gather,
and each one receives Your words.
4 Moses charged us with the law,
the possession of the assembly of Jacob.
5 So He became King in Jeshurun,
when the leaders of the people assembled,
with all the tribes of Israel together.
6 “Let Reuben live and not die,
nor let his men be few.”
7 And this he said about Judah:
“Hear, O Lord, the cry of Judah,
and bring him to his people.
Strengthen his hands for him,
and may You be a help for him against his enemies.”
8 Of Levi he said:
“Let Your Thummim and Your Urim
be with Your faithful one,
whom You tested at Massah,
and whom You strived with at the waters at Meribah.
9 He said of his father and mother:
‘I have no regard for them’.
He did not acknowledge his brothers,
nor did he regard his own sons,
but Your precepts alone they observed,
and guarded Your covenant.
10 They will teach Your ordinances to Jacob,
and Your law to Israel;
they will place incense before You,
and whole burnt sacrifice on Your altar.
11 Bless his substance, O Lord,
and accept the work of his hands;
crush the loins of those who rise up against him,
and those who hate him
so they rise up no more.”
12 Of Benjamin he said:
“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him,
for He shields him all day long,
as he rests between His shoulders.”
13 Of Joseph he said:
“Blessed of the Lord is his land,
with the dew of heaven’s bounty,
and the deep that lies beneath,
14 with the choice fruits of the sun,
and the abundant yields of the seasons;
15 with the finest produce of the ancient mountains,
and with the bounty of the everlasting hills;
16 with the choice gifts of the land and its fullness,
and the favour of Him who dwelt in the burning bush.
Let all these blessings come upon the head of Joseph,
on the crown of one who was the prince of his brothers.
17 In majesty he is like the firstborn bull;
his horns are like the horns of the wild ox.
With them he gores the peoples,
driving them to the ends of the earth.
Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim,
and such are the thousands of Manasseh.”
18 Of Zebulun he said:
“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your pursuits,
and Issachar, in your tents.
19 They will summon peoples to the mountain;
there they will offer sacrifices of righteousness;
for they will feast on the abundance of the seas,
and the hidden treasure of the sand.”
20 Of Gad he said:
“Blessed be He who enlarges Gad!
Gad lies down like a lion,
poised to tear off arm and scalp.
21 He chose the best part for himself,
for there the leader’s portion was reserved.
He came with the leaders of the people;
he executed the justice of the Lord,
and His ordinances for Israel.”
22 Of Dan he said:
“Dan is a lion’s cub,
leaping out of Bashan.”
23 Of Naphtali he said:
“O Naphtali, satisfied with favour,
and full of the blessing of the Lord,
take possession of the west and the south.”
24 Of Asher he said:
“Most blessed of sons;
may he be favoured by his brothers,
and let him bathe his foot in oil.
25 May the bolts of your gates be of iron and bronze,
and your strength equal your number of days.
26 “There is no one like God, O Jeshurun,
who rides through the heavens to help you
on the clouds in His majesty.
27 The eternal God is your refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
and say, ‘Destroy!’
28 So Israel will live in safety alone;
the fountain of Jacob in the land of grain and new wine,
where the heavens drip down dew.
29 Blessed are you, O Israel!
Who is like you,
a people saved by the Lord?
He is your shield and helper,
and the sword of Your majesty!
Your enemies will cringe before you,
and you will tread down their high places.
