The Book of Isaiah

Isaiah Chapter 52

The Redemption of Jerusalem

1“AWAKE, awake,
put on your strength, O Zion!

Put on your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean
will enter you no more. 2 Stand up, shake the dust from yourself;
take your seat, O Jerusalem! Loose the bonds from your neck,
O captive Daughter Zion.

3 For this is what the Lord says:

“You have sold yourself for nothing,
and you will be redeemed without money.”

4 For this is what the Lord God says:

“At first my people went down to Egypt to live,
lately Assyria has oppressed them without cause. 5 So what do I now have here,”
says the Lord,
“that My people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them wail,”
says the Lord,
“and My name is blasphemed all day long. 6 Therefore My people will know My name;
therefore on that day they will know that it is I who speaks:
‘Behold, it is I’.”

7 How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, who proclaims peace,
who brings good tidings, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!” 8 Your watchmen lift up their voices,
together they shout for joy; for they will see with their own eyes
when the Lord returns to Zion. 9 Break forth into singing,
you ruins of Jerusalem! For the Lord has comforted His people;
He has redeemed Jerusalem. 10 The Lord has made bare His holy arm
in the sight of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth will see
the salvation of our God.

11 Depart, depart, go out from there!
Touch no unclean thing! Come out from the midst of her, purify yourselves,
you who carry the vessels of the Lord. 12 For you will not go out in haste,
nor will you need to take flight; for the Lord will go before you,
and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

The Sufferings and Glory of the Obedient Servant

13 “Behold, My servant will act wisely;
He will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. 14 Just as many were appalled at You
so His appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man, and His form beyond that of the sons of men 15 so He will sprinkle many nations.
Kings will shut their mouths because of Him; for that which they had not been told, they will see,
and that which they had not heard, they will understand.”
