The Book of Isaiah

Isaiah Chapter 25

Praise to the Lord

1Lord, You are my God!

I will exalt You,
I will praise Your name; for You have done wonderful things;
plans laid down from of old, faithful and true. 2 For You have made the city a pile of rubble,
the fortified city a ruin; the stronghold of foreigners is a city no more;
it will never be rebuilt.

3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify You;
cities of ruthless nations will fear You. 4 For You have been a strength for the poor,
a strength for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm,
a shade from the heat. When the breath of the violent
is like driving rain against a wall, 5 like heat in a dry land,
You subdue the uproar of foreigners. As heat diminishes in the shadow of a cloud,
so the song of the violent is stilled.

6 On this mountain the Lord of Hosts will prepare
a feast of rich food for all the peoples, a feast of aged wine
choice meats, and the finest of aged wines. 7 On this mountain He will destroy
the shroud that is cast over all people, the veil that is spread over all the nations; 8 He will swallow up death forever.
The Lord God will wipe away the tears
from every face; the disgrace of His people
He will take away from all the earth. For the Lord has spoken.

9 On that day it will be said,

“Lo, this is our God;
we have waited for Him, and He will save us! This is the Lord, we have waited for Him;
let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation!”

10 The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain;
but Moab will be trodden down, as straw is trodden down in the dung pit. 11 They will spread out their hands in the midst of it,
as a swimmer reaches out to swim. Their pride will be brought low,
together with the trickery of their hands. 12 The fortress with high walls will be brought down,
laid low, and thrown to the ground, even to the dust.
