Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2 “When will you put an end to all these words?
Be sensible and then we can talk.
3 Why are we counted as cattle,
and regarded as stupid in your sight?
4 You, who tear your soul in your anger,
should the earth be abandoned for your sake?
Or will the rocks be removed from their place?
5 “Yes, the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out;
and the flame of his fire does not shine.
6 The light in his tent becomes dark;
the lamp beside him goes out.
7 His robust steps are weakened;
his own schemes trip him up.
8 He is led into a net by his own feet,
he wanders into the mesh.
9 A snare catches him by the heel;
a trap holds him fast.
10 A noose lies hidden for him on the ground;
a trap for him along the path.
11 Terrors frighten him on every side
and besets him at every step.
12 His strength is starved,
and destruction is ready at his side.
13 It eats away at his skin;
the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
14 He is uprooted from the security of his tent,
and marched away to the king of terrors.
15 Nothing he owned remains in his tent;
burning sulphur is scattered over his habitation.
16 His roots are dried up below,
and above his branch withers.
17 The memory of him perishes from the earth,
and he has no name in the land.
18 He is driven from light into the darkness,
and chased out of the world.
19 He has no offspring or descendants among his people,
and no survivors where he once lived.
20 Those who come after are appalled at his fate,
while those went before are seized with horror.
21 Surely such is the dwelling of the unrighteous;
such is the place of those who do not know God.”
