Regulations for Offerings

1
THE

Lord said to Moses,  2  “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘After you have entered the land I am giving you to settle in,  3  and you present to the Lord offerings made by fire from the herd or the flockwhether a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to fulfil a vow, or as a freewill offering, or at your appointed feaststo make an aroma pleasing to the Lord,  4  then the one presenting his offering to the Lord must also present a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter of a hin of oil.  5  With each lamb for the burnt offering or the sacrifice, prepare a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering.

6‘With a ram, prepare as a grain offering two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a third of a hin of oil,  7  and for a drink offering, present a third of a hin of wine. Offer this for an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

8‘When you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering or as a sacrifice, to fulfil a vow, or for a fellowship offering to the Lord,  9  then present with the young bull a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with half a hin of oil.  10  Also bring half a hin of wine as a drink offering. It will be an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.  11  This is to be done for each bull or ram, or each lamb or young goat.  12  Do the same for each one you prepare, no matter how many there are.

13  ‘Everyone who is native-born must do these things in this way when he presents an offering made by fire as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.  14  When a foreign resident or someone living among you presents an offering made by fire as an aroma pleasing to the Lord, he must do exactly are you do throughout your generations.  15  The assembly is to have the same statute for you and for the foreign resident living among you; this is to be a perpetual statute throughout your generations. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord.  16  There will be the same law and the same ordinance for you and for the foreigner living among you’.”

17  The Lord said to Moses,  18  “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land to which I am bringing you,  19  and you eat the food of the land, present a portion to the Lord.  20  Present a cake from your first batch of dough as an offering; offer it just as you would present an offering from the threshing floor.  21  Throughout your generations, you are to give this offering to the Lord from the first batch of your dough.

Offerings for Unintentional Sins

22  “If you sin unintentionally by failing to obey any of these commands that the Lord gave Moses  23  all that the Lord has commanded through Moses, from the day the Lord gave them, and onward throughout your generations  24  and if it was done unintentionally without the community being aware of it, then the whole community is to offer a young bull for a burnt offering as an aroma pleasing to the Lord, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and a male goat for a sin offering.  25  The priest is to make atonement for the whole Israelite community and it will be forgiven them, for their sin was not intentional. They are to present their offering, an offering made to the Lord by fire, and their sin offering before the Lord for their unintentional sin.  26  The whole Israelite community will be forgiven, as well as the foreigner who lives among them, because all the people were involved in the unintentionally wrongdoing.

27  “But if an individual person sins unintentionally, then he must present a year-old female goat for a sin offering.  28  The priest is to then make atonement before the Lord for the person who erred by sinning unintentionally, and when atonement has been made for him, he will be forgiven.  29  You are to have the same law for the person who sins unintentionally, whether he is an Israelite or a foreign resident who lives among you.

30  “But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or foreign resident, blasphemes the Lord, and that person must be cut off from his people.  31  Because he has despised the word of the Lord and broken His commands, that person must be completely cut off; his guilt remains on him’.”

Penalty for Sabbath-Breaking

32  While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.  33  Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to the whole community.  34  They placed him in custody because it was not clear what should be done to him.

35  Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man is to be put to death. The whole community must stone him outside the camp.”  36  So the entire community took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Tassels for Remembrance

37  The Lord said to Moses,  38  “Speak to the Israelites and tell them they are to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, with a blue cord on the tassel at each corner.  39  You will have these tassels so that when you look at it you will remember all the commands of the Lord and obey them, and not become unfaithful by following after the lusts of your own heart and your own eyes.  40  Then you will remember to obey all My commands and be holy to your God.  41  I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.”
