my example, as I also follow the example of Christ.
2 I praise you because you remember me in all things, and maintain the teachings just as I delivered them to you.
3 But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is one and the same thing—as if her head were shaved. 6 So if a woman will not cover her head, then she should cut off her hair. But if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should cover her head.
7 A man should not have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man. 9 Nor was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 For this reason, and also because of the angels, the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head.
11 However, in the Lord, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman; but all things come from God. 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonour to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? 16 However, if anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.
17 Now in giving the following instructions I have no praise for you, because when you meet together it is not for the better but for the worse. 18 For, to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 19 For there must indeed be factions among you, so that it is made apparent which of you are approved. 20 When you come together, it is not to eat the Lords Supper, 21 for as you eat, each one takes his own supper ahead of others, and one goes hungry and another gets drunk. 22 What! Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this!
23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way, after supper He also took the cup, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sin against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 So a man should examine himself, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body of the Lord, eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and some have fallen asleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 But if anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together, it will not result in judgment.
When I come to you, I will give instructions about the other issues.
