Romans Chapter 12

A Living Sacrifice

1
THEREFORE,

brothers, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, who is your spiritual worship.  2  Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but rather to think with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given to each of you.  4  Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,  5  In the same way we who are many form one body in Christ, and individually we are members of one another.  6  We have different gifts according to the grace given to us: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;  7  If ministry, in ministering; if teaching, in teaching;  8  If exhorting, in exhortation; if contributing to the needs of others, with generosity; if it is leadership, with diligence; if it is mercy, with cheerfulness.

True Christian Love

9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  10  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love. Outdo one another in showing honour.  11  Never be lagging in zeal, but be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.  12  Rejoice in hope, be patient in affliction, persevere in prayer.  13  Share with the saints in their needs; practice hospitality.

14  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  15  Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.  16  Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but associate with those of low position. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

17  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but try to do what is honourable in the eyes of everyone.  18  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.  19  Friends, do not take revenge, but leave room for God’s wrath; for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.  20  On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for in so doing, you will be heaping fiery coals on his head”.

21  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
