since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, 4 and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.
For while we were still powerless, at the appointed time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous man; yet perhaps for a good men someone might possibly even dare to die. 8 Point God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him! 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life! 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all have sinned— 13 for sin was in the world before the law was given. But a person is not charged with sin when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command like the transgression of Adam, who was a pattern of the One who was to come.
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass many died, how much more has the grace of God and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflowed to the many! 16 And the gift of God is not like the result of the one man’s sin, because from one sin followed judgment that resulted in condemnation, but the gift followed many trespassers and brought justification. 17 For if by the trespass of one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundant provision of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
Consequently, as through one man’s trespass there was condemnation for all people, so also through one act of righteousness there is made available justification that brings life for everyone. 19 For just as through the disobedience of one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man the many will be made righteous.
The law was added with the result that the trespass was multiplied. But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness, leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
