the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom, I solemnly give you this charge: 2 Preach the word! Persist in it whether in season or out of season; convince, rebuke, and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. But they will instead follow their own inclinations, and accumulate many teachers for themselves who say something new to tingle their itching ears. 4 So they will turn their ears away from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. 5 But as for you, be watchful in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 There is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
Do your best to come to me soon, 10 for Demas has deserted me, because he loves this present world, and he has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring his with you, for he is useful to my in the ministry. 12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus at Troas, also the scrolls, and especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done. 15 You must also be on your guard against him, for he strongly opposed our message.
At my first defence, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear. So I was delivered from the mouth of the lion. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen!
Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus has remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick and Miletus. 21 Do your best to come here before winter. Eubulus greets you, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers.
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
