The Book of 2 Timothy

2 Timothy Chapter 4

Godlessness in the Last Days

1
BUT

know this: There will be perilous times in the last days.  2  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  3  unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,  4  treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,  5  holding on to a form of godliness but denying its power. From such people turn away!

6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of sinful desires,  7  always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.  8  Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people also oppose the truth, men of corrupt minds, who are rejected in regard to the faith.  9  But they will not make much progress because, as was the case with those two men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

Paul’s Charge to Timothy

10  But you have carefully followed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance,  11  my persecutions, and my sufferingsthe things that happened to me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.  12  In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.  13  But evil people and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.  14  But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, because you know those who taught you,  15  and how from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

16  All Scripture is given by inspiration from God and is useful for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and for training in righteousness,  17  so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
