King David said to all the assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task ahead is great, because the temple is not for man, but for the Lord God. 2 So I have laid up the resources to the best of my ability for the temple of my God gold for the objects to be made of gold, silver for silver, bronze for bronze, iron for iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx and stones for mounting, antimony, stones of various colours, and all kinds of precious stones, and much marble. 3 Moreover, because I have set my devotion to the temple of my God, I now give my own personal treasures of silver and gold over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 the gold for things of gold, and the silver for things silver, and for all kinds of work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who then is willing to consecrate himself today to the Lord?”
6 Then the heads of families, leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officers over the king’s work, offered willingly. 7 They gave toward the work on the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the House of the Lord, into the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced at the willingness to give, for they had freely given with a whole heart to the Lord, and King David also rejoiced greatly.
10 Then David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly. David said,
“Blessed are you, O LORD,
the God of our father Israel,
forever and ever.
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power,
the glory and the splendour and the majesty;
for all that is in heaven and on earth belongs to You.
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
and You are exalted as head over all.
12 Riches and honour come from You,
and You rule over everything.
In Your hand are power and might,
and it is in Your hand to make great,
and to give strength to all.
13 Now, our God, we give You thanks,
and praise Your glorious name.
14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so willingly as this? For everything comes from You, so we have given You of what is only Yours. 15 For we are as foreigners and pilgrims before you, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, and without hope. 16 O Lord our God, all this abundance that we laid aside to build You a House for Your Holy Name comes from Your own hand, and it all belongs to You. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and that You are pleased with uprightness. All these things I have willingly given with an upright heart. And now with joy I have seen your people who are present here give willingly and joyfully to You also. 18 O Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this desire in the thoughts and in the hearts of Your people forever, and fix their hearts firmly on You. 19 And give my son Solomon an undivided heart to keep and to carry out Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes, and to build the temple for which I have made provision.”
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Now bless the Lord your God.” So all the assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers, and they bowed down their heads and prostrated themselves before the Lord and the king.
21 The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt offerings to the Lord: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord on that day.
Then they again proclaimed David’s son Solomon king for a second time, and anointed him before the Lord to be ruler, and Zadok to be priest. 23 So Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the leaders and the mighty men, as well as all of King David’s, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
25 The Lord has highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him such royal majesty that no other king in Israel had before him.
26 Thus David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27 The length of his reign over Israel was forty years—he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 28 He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour, and his son Solomon succeeded him as king.
29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written about in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer, 30 along with the details of his reign, his might, and the events that happened to him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.
