divisions of the gatekeepers:
From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.
2 Meshelemiah had sons:
Zechariah the firstborn,
Jediael the second,
Zebadiah the third,
Jathniel the fourth,
3 Elam the fifth,
Jehohanan the sixth,
and Eliehoenai the seventh.
4 Obed-edom also had sons:
Shemaiah the firstborn,
Jehozabad the second,
Joah the third,
Sachar the fourth,
Nethanel the fifth,
5 Ammiel the sixth,
Issachar the seventh,
and Peullethai the eighth;
for God blessed him.
6 Also, to his son Shemaiah sons were born who were leaders over their ancestral houses because they were strong and capable men. 7 The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad; his brothers Elihu and Semachiah were also capable men. 8 All these were of the sons of Obed-edom; they, their sons, and their brothers were capable men with strength to carry out the work—62 from Obed-edom.
9 Meshelemiah had sons and brothers who were capable men—18.
10 Hosah, from the Merarites, had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father appointed him as the first), 11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. The sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen in all.
12 These divisions of the gatekeepers, through their chief men, had duties for ministering in the House of the Lord, just as their brothers also did. 13 They cast lots, small and great alike, by their ancestral houses for each gate.
14 The lot for the east gate fell to Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, and the lot for him came out for the north gate. 15 The lot for the south gate fell to Obed-edom, and the lot for his sons was the storehouses. 16 For Shuppim and Hosah, the lot came out for the west gate, and for the gate of Shallecheth on the ascending road.
A guard was stationed opposite another guard at every watch. 17 There were six Levites each day on the east, four each day on the north, four each day on the south, and two pairs at the storehouses. 18 As for the colonnade on the west, there were four at the road and two at the colonnade itself.
19 These were the divisions of the gatekeepers from the sons of Korah and the sons of Merari.
20 From the Levites, Ahijah was in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries of the dedicated things.
21 The sons of Ladan, who were the sons of the Gershonites through Ladan, and who were the heads of families belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli. 22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasuries of the House of the Lord.
23 From the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:
24 Shebuel, a descendant of Gershom son of Moses, was the officer in charge of the treasuries. 25 His kinsmen through Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomoth his son. 26 This Shelomoth and his brothers were in charge of all the treasuries of the things dedicated by King David, by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and by the other army commanders. 27 Some of the plunder taken in battles they dedicated to maintain the House of the Lord. 28 And everything that had been dedicated by Samuel the seer, by Saul son of Kish, by Abner son of Ner, and by Joab son of Zeruiah, along with all the other dedicated items were in the care of Shelomoth and his brothers. 29 From the Izharites: Chenaniah and his sons were assigned duties away from the temple as officers and judges for Israel. 30 From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers—seventeen hundred capable men—held charge over Israel on the west side of the Jordan for all the work of the Lord and for the service of the king. 31 From the Hebronites, Jerijah was the head of the Hebronites. In the fortieth year of the reign of David a search was carried out, and capable men among the Hebronites were found at Jazer in Gilead. 32 Among his kinsmen there were two thousand seven hundred capable men who were heads of families. These King David appointed as overseers of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and for the affairs of the king.
