for you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 In which you used to walk according to the ways of this world, and according to the prince of the powers of the air, the spirit of whom is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us previously lived among them, conducting ourselves according to the desires of our own flesh, gratifying the cravings of the flesh and of the mind, and being like everyone else, we too were by nature also children of wrath.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us 5 made us alive with Christ, even when we were dead through our trespasses—for it is by grace that you have been saved! 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us in the heavens, 7 so that in the coming age He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace, that He has expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace that you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is a gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time that we should walk in them.
11 Therefore, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh and called ‘uncircumcised’ by those who call themselves ‘the circumcision’ (that is done in the flesh by human hands)— 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and strangers to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who were once far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both groups into one and has broken down the barrier, the dividing wall 15 of hostility, by abolishing in His flesh the law with its commandments and regulations, so that He might create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and so that He might reconcile both of them to God in one body through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility. 17 So He came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord, 22 In whom you are also being built together, to become a dwelling place for God through his Spirit.
